Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Thesis Lab 26/27 ‘Sustainable Healthcare’

Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Thesis Labs is looking for an academic coordinator for the LDE Thesis Lab 26/27 ‘Sustainable Healthcare’

About an LDE Thesis Lab

LDE Thesis Labs is an innovative 2 EC-program for graduating master students from Leiden-Delft-Erasmus, and students from applied sciences in South-Holland. In an LDE Thesis Lab 12-15 master thesis students from various backgrounds and societal organizations work on the big challenges of today in an interdisciplinary environment: to deal with other perspectives, to think in systems and to bridge the gap between thinking and doing. The students work on their own thesis assignment, as part of their regular study program. In a half year extracurricular program of 12 bi-weekly sessions between January and July 2027 students discuss their work with each other and societal partners, and together create an interdisciplinary result (see example program 2026-2027). The bi-weekly sessions consist of plenary workshops, enrichment sessions (excursions, site visits), a round table session and a final event with stakeholders.

LDE Thesis Lab ‘Sustainable Healthcare’

In 2026-2027 we organize 10 LDE Thesis Labs. One of the LDE Thesis Labs will be the sixth edition of the ‘Sustainable Healthcare’ Lab in collaboration with Medical Delta and partners in the region (hospitals, companies, governmental organizations). The challenge is: How can the Dutch healthcare sector contribute to planetary health? We will look into sub challenges such as:

  • The effects of environmental change on public health.
  • Development and implementation of effective mitigation and adaptation measures for healthcare. Think of implementing circular or CO2 reducing strategies (mitigation) or preparing clients for extreme heat (adaptation).
  • Behavioural change in relation to preventing environmental degradation.

We are looking for students with a variety of disciplines, such as industrial design, environmental sciences, healthcare management, technical) medicine, nursing, law, supply chain management, business studies, social studies and biomedical sciences.
