ESHPM Health Sciences program open to practice-based assignments in technology and innovation

The bachelor’s program in Health Sciences at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) is seeking real-world cases in the field of healthcare innovation. Second-year Health Sciences students work in groups of five for eight weeks on selected assignments.

During this period, the students develop a prototype for a problem provided by the client. The student project runs for eight weeks (from early September to the end of October), during which the student teams can dedicate approximately two days per week to the assignment. Each phase of the innovation cycle is addressed, aligned with what students are learning in that period in the course.

Examples of previous assignments include:

  • Designing a prototype for a blended care pathway for patients with chronic hypertension, using Luscii
  • Designing an efficient system for the distribution of home monitoring equipment
  • Designing a solution for the paramedical service to reduce the number of no-shows at the bedside

During this period, students learn about the technological, organizational change, economic, and ethical aspects of healthcare innovation. In addition, they are introduced to the principles of Design Thinking, which they directly apply to a real-world case provided by the client.
