Innovation in healthcare starts with the problem: podcast about the story of Secuped

Tuesday, March 10, 2026

The podcast series Het Kantelpunt by InnovationQuarter features Secuped. Martijn van de Giessen, founder of Secuped, explains why healthcare innovation starts with clearly defining the problem, how to validate solutions in practice, and why you simply cannot get far without collaboration.

Secuped is one of the organizations that received a development voucher from the ZorgTech Innovation Program. Last year, a consortium including Secuped also received funding from WorkTech Innovation Program, the innovation program for labour-saving innovations in health, welfare, and care.

This project is called RELIEF and focuses on reducing labour-intensive wound care through effective prevention of foot ulcers. Diabetic foot ulcers are open wounds or sores on the foot in people with diabetes. They have a severe impact on patients’ quality of life and require more than one million home wound-care visits each year.

RELIEF investigates how home monitoring can be integrated into the healthcare system and, through a clinical study, optimizes the alert criteria to balance clinical outcomes and workload. Participants include Secuped, Delft University of Technology, and Leiden University Medical Center. The collaborative project is co-funded through a PPS allowance granted by Health~Holland, Topsector Life Sciences & Health,to stimulate public-private partnerships.

For ZorgTech Innovation program, Martijn van de Giessen was also interviewed. You can read this interview here (in Dutch): Innovatie in de zorg begint bij het probleem – en groeit door samenwerking: het verhaal van Secuped - Innovationquarter

This podcast episode was produced in collaboration with the Innovation Program ZorgTech, an initiative of Medical Delta, TNO, Metropolitan Region Rotterdam The Hague, the Province of South Holland, and InnovationQuarter. The podcast was recorded in late 2025. Most of the programs mentioned in the episode will start in 2026.

In the healthcare innovation program ‘WorkTech - Labour‑saving Innovations for Health, Welfare and Care’, Medical Delta, InnovationQuarter, and ZWconnect bring together practice partners, knowledge institutions, and technology companies in South Holland around a central question: how can labour-saving and labour-easing innovation be optimally deployed to ensure the quality and accessibility of care with fewer staff?
