Wednesday, April 9, 2025

J58 and Freequency have won the tenth edition of the National Healthcare Innovation Award. The expert jury awarded the grand prize of €10,000 to J58, while Freequency won the €5,000 audience award by receiving the most public votes. The awards were presented by Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands.

J58 – Winner of the Jury Prize

The jury was convinced by the Ezer: an innovative, fully mechanical wheelchair with a standing function, developed by J58. Thanks to smart gas springs – calibrated to the user's weight – the Ezer allows users to stand and move around while in an upright position. In addition, the wheelchair is easy to dismantle and therefore convenient to transport.

According to the jury, consisting of chair Jan Willem Spijkman, Brigitte Boon, Nils van Herpen, Janneke van Strien, and Maarten Timmers, the strength of the Ezer lies in its simplicity: "It’s a smart, effective solution with the potential for major societal impact."

Freequency – Winner of the Audience Award

Freequency won over nearly a quarter of the public vote and received the €5,000 audience award, presented by Prince Constantijn. The app is the first tinnitus-focused AR serious game in the Netherlands and offers a playful, innovative complement to existing treatment methods. Using Augmented Reality and exposure therapy, Freequency helps users train their brains to reduce tinnitus-related symptoms, resulting in less fatigue and irritation.
