Prof. dr. Marion Smits receives ASNR Honorary Member Award from American Society of Neuroradiology

Prof. dr. Marion Smits, one of the scientific leaders of the programm Medical Delta Cancer Diagnostics 3.0: Big Data Science of in & ex vivo Imaging, received the Honorary Member Award trom the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR).

Smits uses physiological imaging techniques to visualize the brain’s function and microarchitecture, and to study pathophysiological and regenerative processes in a variety of neurological diseases. Her current focus is on neuro-oncology. She has previously done extensive research in the field of dementia and brain trauma. A characteristic of her work is that she breaks the boundaries between science and clinical practice, according to the ASNR.

In addition to Professor of Neuroradiology at Erasmus MC, Smits is also chairman of the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB) and chairman of the publication committee member of the Executive Council of the European Society of Radiology (ESR). She is also chairman of the Imaging Group at the European organization for cancer research and treatment (EORTC). According to the ASNR, she makes connections between relevant clinical research questions from her various functions. She also implements scientific innovation in clinical practice and applies her knowledge to her passion for education, enabling the next generation of radiologists to advance neuroradiology.
