DORA - Digital operating room assistant

DORA is a digital operating room assistant that optimizes the safety and efficiency of processes in and around the operating room (OR).

Impact

Social: Instruments, equipment, and personnel must be present in an OR at the right time and place. With smart combinations of digital information, the development of sensor techniques, and artificial intelligence, the DORA project aims to recognize and improve inefficiencies in work processes.
Economic: The more efficient running of checks on medical equipment will save a great deal of time and thus costs.
Scientific: There are publications in two dissertations (see this link and this link)

Project

In the Medical Delta Research Hub, various tracking systems, image recognition systems, and smart algorithms to detect and directly process patterns in this data are being tested and further developed within DORA. The first version has been developed and implemented in all operating rooms of the Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis. The module automatically records the presence of OR equipment and links the information to the maintenance database. The clinical OR staff can thus see immediately whether systems are functioning adequately and the maintenance staff can respond quickly to calamities.
