The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Basalt renew the professorship in 'Rehabilitation and Technology'

he Professorship in 'Rehabilitation and Technology' at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Basalt has been renewed for another six years. Led by Dr. Jorit Meesters, the professorship collaborates with Medical Delta on a range of projects, including through the Medical Delta Living Lab 'Blended rehabilitation'.

According to The Hague University of Applied Sciences, the renewal recognises the societal relevance and impact of the research conducted by the professorship. The collaboration between The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Basalt brings together practice-oriented research, education and rehabilitation care to accelerate the translation of technological innovations into clinical practice.

The Professorship in 'Technology for Inclusive Physical Activity and Sport' has also been renewed for another six years. Over the past years, both professorships have developed and applied valuable knowledge in close collaboration with healthcare organisations, businesses, government bodies, educational institutions and end users. From innovative assistive technologies for adaptive sports to technological solutions that make rehabilitation care more accessible, efficient and future-proof, connecting research with practice remains at the heart of their work.

Strength through collaboration

Over the next six years, the professorships will continue to build a future in which technology is not an end in itself, but a means of enhancing participation, independence and quality of life. They will continue to develop solutions that address people's needs while contributing to accessible healthcare, equal opportunities for physical activity, and a more inclusive society.

"The strength of our Professorship in Rehabilitation and Technology lies in bringing people and disciplines together," says Meesters. "Our research originates in clinical practice, enriches education, and returns to healthcare as innovation. In the coming years, we will further strengthen these connections through data and AI, making rehabilitation care smarter, more personalised and future-proof."
